Take a single line from any of the modernist poems in our reading and use this line to create your own modernist poem, using the techniques of imagism.
And all is always now…..
So do not asleep yet my child
Otherwise, the wolves in your dreams shall howl
Run and play, let your imagination run wild.
Life will run faster than you if you sleep now
If you close your eyes and surrender your limbs
A lifetime will pass you by
So stay and play, and in return, you shall receive an eternity.
Take of your soul, don’t forget to converse with it
Because one day, they will attempt to steal it or corrupt it.
But you soul to paper and don’t be scared
Don’t sleep. Write.
A poem I wish this to be, but a list is what you need.
To see that all is always now
And now will always be.
This poem is a fight against assimilation in all its negative forms. We often are carried away by jobs, social expectations and societies pressures. We forget to nourish our soul and listen to it. We sleep so that we can wake up for our meaningless jobs, only to be performing just as tired as we went to sleep, so we must make the most of the night and dance with our soul.
